Pauline Oostenrijk kreeg haar eerste hobo- en pianolessen aan Muziekschool Westerkwartier in Zuidhorn, bij resp. Huib Nieuwenhuizen en Cees Leurs. Ze studeerde hobo en piano aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. Haar docenten waren Koen van Slogteren, Jan Spronk, Thomas Indermühle, Han de Vries (hobo) en Willem Brons (piano).

Ze was Nederlands ‘Young Musician of the Year’ in 1986 en won daarna diverse andere prijzen, waaronder de eerste prijs in het Fernand Gillet hobo concours in Baltimore, wat haar een recital opleverde in Carnegie Hall, New York. In 1999 ontving ze de Nederlandse Muziek Prijs, de hoogste staatsonderscheiding op het gebied van de klassieke muziek.

Van 1993 tot 2018 was ze solohoboïst van het Residentie Orkest in Den Haag. Ze trad veelvuldig op als solist en in verschillende kamermuziek formaties. Daarnaast voltooide ze de studie Nederlandse Taal en Cultuur aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

Tegenwoordig doceert Pauline aan het Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen en wijdt zich aan het lesgeven aan jong hobo talent op verschillende locaties in Nederland. Ze treedt op met o.a. gitarist Enno Voorhorst, het The Hague String Trio en als lid van het Orlando Quintet.

Naast dit alles schrijft en componeert ze graag.

Pauline Oostenrijk received her first oboe and piano lessons at the Westerkwartier Music School in Zuidhorn, respectively with Huib Nieuwenhuizen and Cees Leurs. She studied oboe and piano at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam. Her teachers were Koen van Slogteren, Jan Spronk, Thomas Indermühle, Han de Vries (oboe) and Willem Brons (piano).

She was Dutch ‘Young Musician of the Year’ in 1986 and subsequently won several other prizes, including first prize in the Fernand Gillet oboe competition in Baltimore, which was followed by a recital in Carnegie Hall, New York. In 1999 she received the Dutch Music Prize, the highest state honor in the field of classical music.

From 1993 to 2018 she was solo oboist of the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague. She has performed frequently as a soloist and in various chamber music formations. She also completed her studies in Dutch Language and Culture at Utrecht University.

Nowadays, Pauline teaches at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen and devotes herself to teaching young oboe talent at various locations in the Netherlands. She performs with, among others, guitarist Enno Voorhorst, the The Hague String Trio and as a member of the Orlando Quintet.

In addition to all this, she enjoys writing and composing.
